Dominica will move one step closer to establishing a National Export Strategy (NES) when the Ministry of Trade, Foreign Affairs and Labour and DEXIA officially launch the NES with a three-day implementation workshop.

The workshop which will be convened at the Fort Young Hotel from June 6th – 8th will commence with an official opening ceremony at 9:00 am. Government, trade officials and representatives from the International Trade Center (ITC) are expected to address the function.

During the three days of intense work sessions, a group of consultants from the ITC will meet with a cross-sectoral team of private and public sector, NGO and academia representatives to discuss and develop an NES framework and implementation plan for Dominica. Key areas to be addressed include the design and management of a NES, the scope of the strategy, the four gears of strategy, national competitiveness, value chain analysis, product and services sector value chain, and the strategy design and management framework.

It is expected that at the end of the three-day work session, a NES action plan and way forward for Dominica would have been developed and a national strategic design team assembled to coordinate the development of the NES.

The NES is expected to yield significant benefits to Dominica. “The NES will assist us to focus our exports on priority markets with high penetration potential. As a tool it will also assist us in achieving the medium-term goals outlined in the Growth and Social Protection Strategy document” says Gregoire Thomas, General Manager of DEXIA.

The ITC has undertaken to provide technical support for the NES for Dominica while the Commonwealth Secretariat pledged technical and financial support.
