Haiti expresses solidarity with Dominica following passage of Hurricane Dean
Roseau, Dominica – September 20, 2007……….. The Embassy of Haiti has communicated its sympathy and concern for the people of Dominica and St. Lucia following the damage inflicted on the two countries by Hurricane Dean.
The letter from the Embassy of Haiti to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Labour in Dominica through the Embassies of the Eastern Caribbean States and Missions to the European Communities in Brussels read:
“I have the honour to make reference to the report dated 21 August, 2007 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dominica, concerning the damages caused by Hurricane Dean.
“It is with deep sadness that I write concerning the damage caused by the passage of Hurricane Dean on the territories of Dominica and St. Lucia.
“I would like to communicate, to the governments and the peoples of Dominica and St .Lucia, as well as to the families that lost all their possessions in this natural disaster, the feelings of deep regret and sympathy, on behalf of the government and people of Haiti.
“The Republic of Haiti fully associates itself with the pain of the population of Dominica and St. Lucia.”
On August 17, 2007 Dominica was struck by Hurricane Dean, a category two hurricane. It caused colossal damage to agricultural crops, significant damage to the island’s road infrastructure and damage to homes and private property.
