PDM congratulates JLP on election victory

The P.D.M congratulates Leader Bruce Golding and the Jamaica Labour Party on their narrow victory at Monday’s polls after 18 consecutive years in opposition. And we call on the People’s National Party and its President, Portia Simpson-Miller, to be gracious in defeat.

We trust that the new Government will draw on opposition resources and talents in prescribing solutions to the country’s most pressing problems, including in the economy and in the areas of crime and lawlessness.

We take the opportunity to draw attention to the less than positive position which the Labour Party, while in opposition manifested towards regional unity especially as regards the CSME and the Caribbean Court of Justice. We can only hope that, now in Government, it will embrace both institutions.

We hail the Jamaican people for approaching the polls in a spirit of peace and reconciliation. And we exhort them to agitate, regardless of party colours, for a development strategy that puts people first and unites the nation.
