The Dominica Youth Environmental organization (DYEO) Inc. will soon be better placed to execute its programmes as one of its members, Ro-Anne Remy, leaves the state today for Seattle, Washington to participate in a six-month programme in environmental restoration and community based programmes.
The programme, which begins on June 18, is being organized by Earth Corps International. Earth Corps International is a non-profit organization that trains outstanding young persons between 18-25 years who are members of international environmental organizations.
Remy will participate in restoration works of heritage sites in Washington including maintaining hiking trails, planting native trees and shrubs, and removing invasive plants, land preparation, maintenance and plant establishment.
“ I am very happy to have been given this training opportunity to participate in this wonderful programme. It is something that I have dreamt of and I am glad that my organization has secured this opportunity for me to make a further contribution to my country upon completion of this programme,” says Remy.
DYEO is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, which was founded in 1993 with a mission to improve the quality of life among youth by facilitating their personal development and promoting their full involvement in all social and physical environmental matters. The group, among other things, has organized various environmental activities including the annual international beach clean-up campaign as well as environmental camps, floating classrooms, and symposiums
