Cable & Wireles donates sun-umbrellas to New Roseau Market

Cable & Wireless, Dominica Ltd., as part of its win-win partnerships programme, yesterday morning donated 30 sun-umbrellas to the New Roseau Market. The official handing over ceremony was convened at the market to an appreciative crowd of vendors and patrons.

Nabeel Bhatti, Chief Executive of the telecommunications giant, told the ceremony that his company was pleased to make the donation. “We are providing a service to the people who regardless to the weather are here to serve the nation with their healthiest locally grown foods. Cable & Wireless is pleased to announce that we will be presenting umbrellas to the Roseau market vendors through the Ministry of Trade and the DEXIA. Cable &Wireless is committed to providing local products and services and we recognize the valuable role that the vendors play. Many of the vendors are farmers too and as the Cable & Wireless billboard by the Roseau River reads “like our farmers, we are the lifeline of our people.” Bhatti also stated that he was confident that the umbrellas would not only enhance the market ambience but would make vending in the market more comfortable.

David Vital, Head of the Market Support Services Department at DEXIA described the Cable & Wireless’s donation to the market as yet another demonstration of the company’s responsible and model citizenship. “We are extremely pleased that Cable & Wireless, in recognition of the quality work done at the market, decided to make this contribution” he said. “We most certainly welcome and appreciate that kind of public/private sector partnering to deliver outstanding value and service to our respective communities.”

Meanwhile, vendors at the market say they are more than pleased to have received the umbrellas. “We really appreciate the umbrellas because it is very hot these days” said Frances Francis, “and we are quickly approaching the rainy season. The umbrellas will help relieve some of the adverse effects of the weather on the foods and on us.”
