Roseau, Dominica – September 26, 2007….. The construction of the new Indian River Bridge in Portsmouth has commenced as construction of the new Lagoon Bridge and associated works nears completion.

The cost of the new Indian River Bridge is $6.6 million and the project is being undertaken by Edghill & Associates. The project, which is expected to last just under twelve months will also include the redesign and reconstruction of approaches to the new bridge on both sides.

Meanwhile work is expected to finish soon on the new Lagoon Bridge and associated works. The bridge is complete while work is ongoing on sidewalk and drainage improvement. Upon completion of these improvements, approximately 500ft of road will be given an asphalt concrete surface.

The Government of Dominica is also pleased to announce the completion of the rehabilitation of the Bell Hall Bridge. The bridge was completed earlier this year at a cost of just over $25,000.00.

The construction of bridges and the resurfacing of roads in Portsmouth is part of the Government’s plans to modernise the entire road system in Portsmouth, including the provision of sidewalks, roundabouts and other intersection improvements.
