Team of engineers from martinique concludes visit to Dominica

Roseau, Dominica – September 5, 2007………. A Team from the Conseil Regional of Martinique have just concluded a two-day visit to Dominica when they conducted an assessment of the damage caused to the island’s road infrastructure following the passage of Hurricane Dean.

The Four member delegation which included a Geologist and a Geotechnical engineer focussed on the critical areas, to include the Road from Canefield to Pond Casse and the area known as Biac leading to Laudat.

On day one of the visit, the team went on the Imperial Road and witnessed the damage to this vital piece of road in the form of landslides and edge failures. On day two, the team inspected Biac as well as the village of Campbell where a major landslide took the lives of two people.

The team which also included a cameraman from RFO Martinique also received footage taken from the Government Information Service on the worst affected areas in Dominica especially the damage caused to the agricultural sector, private homes and the Roseau River.

On their arrival on Tuesday morning, the team was met at the Canefield Airport by Minister for Economic Development and Planning, Hon. Julius Timothy, Chief Technical Officer in the Ministry of Public Works and Public Utilities, Mr Petronald Green as well as two other Engineers from the Ministry of Public Works.

On Wednesday, they held discussions with Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit as well as other technical staff from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Utilities.

According to Chief Technical Officer in the Ministry of Public Works and Public Utilities, Mr. Petronald Green, additional experts from the Conseil Regional are expected here soon to conduct further tests and analysis on the affected areas.
