dominica2day: Dominican students continue to excel at MWSU Dominican students continue to excel at MWSU ================================================================================ admin on 18 May, 2008 02:09:00 Dominican student Carlyne Carrette-Parillon earned high honors at Midwestern State University’s commencement ceremonies on May 10th. Mrs. Parillon graduated summa cum laude with a 3.94 GPA becoming the first female student to complete the bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the university. Six Dominicans also earned magna cum laude honors. Deborah Anthony earned her honors for a bachelor of social work; Jeanine Christian for a bachelor of science in nursing; Carissa Georges for a bachelor of business administration in accounting; Rhorn John for a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering; Nadine Prevost for joint degrees in sociology and psychology, and Shanell Telemaque for a bachelor of science in biology. Jeanne Abraham earned cum laude honors and a bachelor of business administration in accounting. Additionally, two Dominicans earned masters degrees. Marie Therese Burton earned an MBA in Health Services Administration; and Jermaine Jean-Pierre earned an MBA in Management Information Systems. Trudy Christian earned a bachelor of science in biology, and Brinder Green earned a bachelor of business administration in accounting. “This was a spectacular day for Dominican students,” said Dr. Howard Farrell, university vice president for student affairs. “It speaks to the quality of the preparation done in the secondary system on the island.” Shurwayne Winchester performed in the spectacular graduation weekend at the university on the night before graduation, and over 600 family members and students attended the graduation dinner. Over thirty Dominicans have been accepted to Midwestern State University this August, accounting for almost 900 recruits from the Caribbean in the history of the fifteen year old program.
