New president for Dominica State college
Hubert Charles, chairman of the Dominica Reunion 2008 Committee and former Director of UNESCO’s Africa Office, has been appointed as the new President of the Dominica State College (DSC). Mr. Charles, who officially assumed his new assignment today, replaces Dr. J. Annette Bardouille who declined renewing her contract last month.
Dr. Gerard Grell, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the DSC reported that the Board was delighted to have such a distinguished Dominican serve as President of the college. “[We] are very glad that we have such a distinguished Dominican who has returned home after serving UNESCO in a very distinguished capacity in Africa and he has agreed to serve as president of the Dominica State College and we are very glad to have him because of his tremendous background in higher education and his international experience. We think that he is going to bring distinction to the college as we move forward.”
The Director of the College Board did not reveal any details of the contract awarded to the new President but said that Charles is expected to sign on with the college initially on a short contract. Thereafter he would determine how long he would remain with the college. Notwithstanding the intended brevity of the contract however, Grell affirmed that he was looking forward to “a tremendous contribution to the development of the college during his tenure.”
