Attorney General Ian Douglas has joined thousands of Dominicans and Caribbean nationals in congratulating Dominican-born Baroness Patricia Scotland on her appointment as Attorney General in the cabinet of new British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

Baroness Brown is the first woman and black person to be elevated to the position of AG in the UK. She is also the only person of Caribbean origin named to the Brown’s cabinet.

The full text of Hon.Dougla’s letter reads:

As Attorney General and Minister for Legal Affairs and Immigration of the Commonwealth of Dominica, I wish to congratulate you on your appointment as the new Attorney General of the United Kingdom. Your appointment as Attorney General, after having served with distinction at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Lord Chancellor’s Department, is a significant milestone in your long and distinguished legal career. Dominicans at home and abroad are elated and extremely proud that a Dominican has attained such a coveted position in Her Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom. We pray that God will continue to guide you as you embark upon what will undoubtedly be a challenging phase in your career. Your presence in the upper echelons of the British Government can only serve to strengthen the excellent bilateral relations that our two countries currently enjoy.
