Dominica adheres to one china policy
As the People’s Republic of China prepares to celebrate the 58th Anniversary of its Founding, the Government of Dominica reaffirms its adherence to the one-China policy.
The United Nations Resolution 2758 adopted in 1971 legally confirmed that the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate representative of China at the United Nations.
In establishing diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China in 2004, the Government and people of Dominica made a clear commitment to adhere to the United Nations Resolution 2758 and join the majority of member states of the United Nations as well as the majority of member states of CARICOM in recognising the People’s Republic of China and the one-China Policy.
This one-China policy is the cornerstone of the bilateral relationship between the People’s Republic of China and the Commonwealth of Dominica.
The President of Dominica, His Excellency, Dr. Nicholas Liverpool, Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit as well as Ministers of Government are expected to attend the reception tonight at the Chinese Embassy in Morne Daniel to commemorate the 58th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC.
The Government and People of Dominica extend best wishes to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China on the occasion of the 58th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The People’s Republic of China, the third largest country in the world in terms of land mass and the world’s fourth largest economy with a population of over 1.3 billion people, was founded on October 1, 1949.
