Dominica signs agreement on technical and economic cooperation with China

Roseau, Dominica – September 19, 2007…..The Government of Dominica will receive 20 million Chinese Yuan approximately $7.2 million ECD from the Chinese Government as a result of the signing recently of an agreement on Technical and Economic Cooperation between the two governments.

Minister for Public Works and Public Utilities, Hon. Ambrose George who led a nineteen (19) member delegation to the Second China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum in Xiamen, China earlier this month signed on behalf of the Government of Dominica. Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Commerce in China, Hon. Wang Chao signed on behalf of the Chinese Government.

In addition, the Chinese Government has agreed to provide grant aid of USD$100,000.00 in cash for disaster relief.

Hon. Ambrose George and Hon. Wang Chao also held discussions and exchanged opinions on bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Dominica.

The Dominica delegation also included Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Labour, Hon. Charles Savarin, Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Hon. Loreen Bannis-Roberts and public and private sector officials from a number of sectors, including, Tourism, Agriculture and Fisheries and Trade and Investment. Two representatives from the local media were also part of the delegation.

Apart from attending the Second China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, the Dominica delegation also attended the Eleventh China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT).
