Stadium to serve as symbol of national pride and development
At the newly built and recently opened Windsor Park Stadium, Prime Minister Skerrit reminded Dominicans that in 2004, critics dismissed the promise he made of a stadium as “pie in the sky”.
The Prime Minister made the statement during his Address on November 3, 2007 on the occasion of Dominica’s 29th anniversary of independence.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered together today for the first time in this new Windsor Park Stadium. In 2004 in the midst of despondency, I promised you that facility. Our critics dismissed that promise as pie in the sky,” the Prime Minister stated.
“As a nation we have always craved for a facility that could accommodate large numbers of Dominicans to give us that sense of national solidarity that is essential for nation-building. For us this will serve as a symbol of national pride and development,” Hon. Skerrit noted.
The Prime Minister called on Dominicans to give themselves a warm round of applause for this great accomplishment and called on the people of Dominica to give an even greater round of applause to the Government of the People’s Republic of China who made this generous gift of a $45 million stadium possible.
Dominica’s first international stadium will create great opportunities for all of us, but imposes great responsibilities on all Dominicans, the Prime Minister explained.
